Transtar sanding roads

Houston Transtar sent out the following release on the road conditions this morning.

TxDOT crews are out in full force as winter weather conditions cause icy roadways. Motorists are discouraged from traveling unless absolutely necessary.

Houston District crews, as well as others around the state, are working as conditions are expected to deteriorate before the morning rush hour. Maintenance crews with dump trucks loaded with aggregate have been covering TxDOT bridges and overpasses to help improve traction on the structures.

The sleet and ice can create roadway hazards for motorists. TxDOT reminds those who must travel to use caution, slow down, increase your following distance, and allow yourself extra time to reach your destination. Also, if possible, avoid driving on elevated structures because they often contain ice that you cannot see.
