Is this service limited to City of Houston residents? We are in the County, but outside the city limits.

And the purpose of drop of locations is? If you are paying for garbage service, those trucks should be picking the stuff up. Many people cannot even get gasoline for their vehicles to bring the stuff in. How inconsiderate of the City of Houston.

How long will these sites being taking these truck loads? Is there a charge for this service?

this is not fair by the City of Houston,if citizens are struggling to buy gas in several places, and by the way,do you provide any trash truck services by the City, even if we are out of the city limits?
How long does it going to take to get all the debri in our community?

Did the above commenters Molly and Frank read the whole article? Yes, the city of Houston will be collecting the debris and yes, 3 months for 80% completion is not ideal, but give them a break.

I have a small 4x8 trailer not a pick up truck...can I bring to the drop off area? and does it cost?

Thank you Chris!!! I guess noone but you and I are considering that these people's lives were impacted by the hurricane too. They have families in need and homes that were destroyed and are doing the best they can. As far as not being fair what a 3-yr old kinda statement...quit wining and put your big girl panties on. What makes you think the City or the contractors have it any easier getting supplies!!

i know it's an emotional time, but think it through before slamming the city for this.. these drop offs are a GOOD thing. The city DOES have contractors trying to pickup all the debris directly from people's homes, this is a HUGE job and will take alot of time. The dropoffs are for those who ARE ABLE to get the debris there themselves. It only relieves the burden on those contracters so they can more quickly get to the folks who REALLY need pickup directly from their home. I for one will be taking a truckload down there, hopefully folks who aren't so lucky to have gas will get their stuff picked up a little quicker because i'm not burdenning those contracters w/ my own stuff. take care all, & stay safe.

FYI, from another site, i got this detail about the dropoffs: "You'll need to show a current utility bill plus your driver's license or a photo I.D. to leave trash. " So i guess it's free up to 1 pickup truck load if you have ID & utility bill proving you live in Houston.

When the posted debris drop off address 6023 Windfern Houston TX is searched on Yahoo maps, Mapquest or Google Maps it will show the northwest corner of Winfern and Hempstead Hwy. This is the corner of a working yet old BBQ business.
By the Key Map shows 6023 Windfern Houston TX on the south side of the Hempstead Hwy, across the railroad tracks at a City of Houston facility. It appears there is an HPD location there too.

Will there be a location for
the southwest (Sharpstown area)?
It would be very helpful and would
take some of the load off of the
city.

Be careful where you pile your limbs! My tree service came yesterday and cut down all limbs that were hanging or on the fence; when they ran out of room in front of my house, they added to my neighbor's pile. My doorbell rang at 9:30 pm with a very upset neighbor complaining about the limbs. This morning when I left for work, I realized she had moved all of the limbs in my already huge pile! I just hope a child doesn't end up getting hurt while going in the street from the obstructive pile of limbs.

My compliments to Cimarron Subdivision in Katy, Texas for their expedient handling of the debris leftover from Hurricane Ike. they are picking up the debris and taking it to a central location for collection. Our street was cleared two days ago. Cimarron is divided in to several HOAs, all that I can say, is Austin Properties was on top of our clean up. Thank you so much.

The drop off service is an option for people who 1) want their property cleared sooner than later and 2) help save the county some money (ie your tax dollars) in the long run by not having to employ extra crews for an extended period of time. The service is free if you are a county resident. They only asked for my drivers license as proof. You have to unload your debris yourself (people in line actually helped each other unload the day I was there to speed things up).

I went to the 6023 Windfern drop off place and nothing is there. It looks like nothing has ever been there that looks like debris. I am really ticked off. I had to go to the local dump and it cost $41.00 to dispose of my Ike trees. Lets get the info right.
