CenterPoint Energy restores power to 75% of its customers
Houston – Sept. 23, 2008 – As of 8:36 p.m., CenterPoint Energy has restored electricity to 75 percent of those customers impacted by Hurricane Ike. Of the 2.15 million customers who lost power, the company has restored power to over 1.58 million in 10 days.

Does this map look a little lop sided to anyone else. Looks like I need to move to the WEST side of Houston if I want to become a first class citizen.

There are at least 1000 dead bodies kept secret.Wayne and Gov. Rick had a argument over this. This is serious and shouldnt and wont be left in the dark.

Amanda sweetheart, there is a clean and a dirty side of a hurricane. The west side was on the clean side. That means less rain and wind damage. Less damage means less time to repair said damage. Be carefull to direct your anger into action, not finger pointing at those who have what you too would like. It is hard to swallow the pain of needing and not having. Just ask all the folks who are minimum wage workers and can not afford to run air conditioners at all, if they even have places to live that have them installed. It really sucks to look into the sweaty face of your child knowing that it will probably always be that way. But, to have light at the end of the tunnel and know that it is not an oncoming train should make it somewhat more bearable.

Samual,
I lost my home in Gilchrist. It is gone. Two pilings left. I am with family on the east side. There are 3 power lines down in this community with trees still on them.
My neighbors are missing. I have a cereal bowl and a teaspoon left of my home. I will be ok. I will keep these momentos and move on.
I am here trying to drum up clothes, shoes, toys, and anyting folks can give for my neighbors.

I like how Centerpoint's Outages by Zip Code page says my zip code would have power by Monday 9/22. I think at this point it's safe to say AFTER Thursday 9/25 now.

centerpoint's 75%, 25% numbers, just does not compute. fuzzy math? sunset heights i do not see any power before the 4th.

I am very upset that the goverment can say we must be ready but it seems Reliant and Centerpoint was not ready Ike was a catergory 2 storm what would have happen if it was a greater storm I guess we would be without for months I think with the money we spend on electric bills monthly we should have not been with out a better plan ! This was the real test when the light company come in and trim trees from the line and you asked if they will cut it lower or better yet down I guess they will think twice tell customer only the limb on the line they will cut it should be that no trees taller than the line should be allowed and the transformers and fuses should be located in the general area so we don't have to wait until they are trucked end to be replaced seems to me Centerpoint and Reliant has a lot to learn because this is unacceptable !

We live in Humble zip code 77396, we were supposed to have power by Monday. They came to our neighborhood yesterday and connected everybody around us but our street. We haven't seen any trucks today.
My husband and I both run our own businesses from home and have not been able to work since the hurricane. We are running low on money and supplies. We have a 10 month old daughter and are getting low on patience.
We know they are working on the power but cannot understand why they hooked everyone else around us with power and have forgotten us. Please let us know if there is anything that can be done to bring us to the power companies attention.
Thanks in advance,

Let me start off by saying Centerpoint YOU SUCK!!!
Posted by: Justin | September 24, 2008 at 02:04 PM
I live in zip 77044 and we have been told all week we would have power soon after Mon, then it became Thursday, and now its nmaybe by Sunday. So for all you other people that were lucky enough to get power you had better start thanking God.
I did not even see a Centerpoint truck in our area until just yesterday and they really have done nothing for us yet. Thanks to a pathetic county operated pest control district, everytime I go outside to fuel my generator I am covered in my own blood from bites (i have more than 30 now).
This was handled in a way that I could never wish this on my worst enemy, not even Centerpoint employees, ok maybe them. I would think with all the smart yet obviously not so smart retards a centerpoint they would have designed a plan to help the people that were hit the hardest while working on the "easy" stuff that way everyone can get power restored fairly. This is a concept obviously to advanced for even the highest ranked idiot at Centerpoint.
I hope that this comes back to haunt them in some way for the rest fo their life. If you arte still without power I encourage everyone to go to the BBB and file a complaint against Centerpoint.

Why has the repair crews repaired down lines and then a half a block away left lines down?
Posted by: Gary Lemm | September 24, 2008 at 02:23 PM
Because CENTERPOINT SUCKS
Posted by: Justin | September 24, 2008 at 02:31 PM
That is what I would like to know. They are supposed to be working 16 hr days and they where gone right at 5:30 pm yesterday.
Posted by: Maria Cervantes | September 24, 2008 at 02:33 PM
I am still without power, not 'a first class citizen' like Amanda stereotype. The West do have negative impact from Ike, i.e. roof torn off from house, fences down and some even fly to wherever Ike wants to land them, roof leakage, etc.
'CenterPoint Energy restores power to 75% of its customers'. I just do not believe this statement along with other statement like 'work around the clock' and put date time of restore complete by Zip.
I lived in 'a first class citizen' area like Amanda said, and per CenterPoint, my zip supposed to restore by Monday, Sept 22, and still no power. I called and talk to CenterPoint Rep today and she gaves me new estimated date time which is by Friday at Midnight. The CenterPoint Rep also did not have her power restore.
It's sad to think most of us still out of electricity over a week, while CenterPoint's 3000+ servicer and 7000+ from neighbor states and other places parade in and around our neighborhood and even on freeway.

why do they lie and say that the power crews work 16 hr days thats a joke u see more trucks just sitting in the stageing areas. this is very disturbing.and why do they come to ur neighbor hood for 1 day then u dont see them anymore.all these workers from other states i am thankful for but at the same time they r well paid and some one is going to have to pay for all this which most likely will be all of us in the near future on our electric bills

LOL us "RICH First Class Folks" have been without power for 14 days now maybe we should move to the poor side of town to get power back on?
Posted by: Jonny Smokes | September 25, 2008 at 11:46 AM
I am thankful for all the efforts Centerpoint and the 1000's of linemen and linewomen that has came from all parts of our country to help us. Note to Amanda I hope you never get power back to your whatever you call the place you sleep. And yes Amanda we are still waiting for power to be restored in "RICH TOWN". They have said that we will have power back in 3 weeks, how about you? When hell freezes over?

The situation is exasperating, that’s putting it nicely. I have read many complain on how CP is handling the Power outage situation and agree with 21% of the
People that remaining with out power. However, CP the big company doesn’t give a hoot about the Public’s complaints/views on their performance, their not working any faster. Going into the second week of customers complaining of no power, CP stated publicly that 80% of their customers had been restored to power, and those complaining of no power were upset they were not in the 80% restored. Later this week that 80% went down to 75%, or was it always 75% I get confused with the Number Crunching. Once this is all said and done CP will continue to send you those high monthly bills, remain stagnant in their technology, and wait for the next big storm to possibly learn a lesion. Bottom line here is complaining of individuals are consider whining, individuals that come together to speak out are consider to have a complaint.

If you go to Centerpoint Official Website - the power resoration page you will find the last time it was updated was Sept 19, 2008.
Doen't that mean they haven't done anything since that date?
I Believe so.
Don't they think you would like to know?
It's like when you call them and they put you off for a week or two.
Some things and companies never change.
Also I see alot of other company repair trucks out on the sites with one lone centerpoint pickup(maybe)

how about a power restoration projection thatis not continuously delayed! An actual reason for this outage! My elderly aunt is alone, no way to report to centerpoint or reliant! She is 2742 Shadowdale between Beltway 8 on the West Kempwood on the North Gessner on the East and Emnora on the South. I am in California, hoping someone will respond to this as she feels noone has been working in her nieghborhood and there is not even that much tree damage! What is the Problem!!!!The Zip Code is 77043

Electricity is a luxury. If you don't believe it, ask the majority of the rest of the world. In many other countries that are lucky enough to have electricity, they aren't lucky enough to have it for even the majority of hours in a day.
And, restoring power to the fourth largest city in the world is not exactly the easiest task to take on.
I too am still without electricity, but I have chosen to make the best of it. It is much more productive to put your energy into helping others in worse situations rather than constant belly-aching. Too bad that's not the prevailing attitude.
