Wayne Dolcefino has finally made his way to Bolivar Peninsula for a look at the destruction there. Here a few points from a quick, early report he was able to make by phone:
Boat ride was treacherous, due to all the debris and boats in the water
On the bay side of Bolivar, the water line was halfway up the windows on the second floor of homes
Homes on the beach side fared worse
It looks like a war zone in the air, with all the military helicopters. Search and rescue operations appear to be underway.
So far, Wayne has seen no sign of people. No word from Bolivar survivors appears to be getting out to worried friends and family.
UPDATE:
Although we earlier said the Bolivar Lighthouse was damaged, it appears that report was in error. Once SkyEye13 flew over, we could tell that at least from the sky, the lighthouse structure appears unharmed.
I've heard that there is an official no fly zone over West Galveston and Bolivar Peninsula. Any truth to the rumors?

Oops my bad, meant "East Galveston"...

Wayne-hope you are satisfied to report things we heard from Channel 11 YESTERDAY. Maybe Miya and you will now lay off the mayor, judge and governor.

Go to the FAA's web site. They have a current list of ALL flight restrictions in the US online. Why ask for answers from people who may/may not know the answer when you can go right to the source?

My sister is a teacher on Galveston Island. She has heard thru another teacher who spoke to an island rescue worker - that they have seen bodies floating on the East end of Galveston. She is highly concerned with the lack of info coming from Galveston East End and Boliver - as well as West End and believes there is more than than being said. My aunt also lived on the island off of a subdivision behind the seawall around 61st street. her neighbor - who stayed and was rescued from the area - told her she had 5-7 ft of water in her home. My sister and I support Wayne strongly in his efforts to get access and get this information out to people asap.

If you want to see video of West End and Galveston switch to ch. 11
Posted by: SCD | September 15, 2008 at 01:32 PM
while KTRK was complaining in news comnferences about their reporters access to Galveston and the lack of supplies or help for Galveston residents, their competitors were showingvideo of buses evacuating survivors and the national guard distributing supplies. Quit the grand standing and just report the facts! And if you really want to do something good for the community, give us a Monday night football game so we can forget about the hurricane for a little while!

Personally, I think the KTRK management should seriously consider Wayne's comments and his personal prosecution of Governor Perry with regards to Bolivar. I find it personally extremely offensive - give families personal due time to grieve and get in touch with loved ones. Don't just try and be the first one to get video cameras into devastated areas... Embarrassed to be a resident of Houston that is represented to the country by this man.

Having lived in Houston and having family and friends there now I am greatly concerned why there is no national attention by the media to what is happening there. Am in Alabama and the only way I can get the true story is from family and the Houston TV stations on the internet. None of the major news networks are covering the Texas story so the rest of the nation and world have no idea what’s actually happening there. Can anyone explain to me why the rest of the world is not being informed about Texas? My prays are with all of you, keep the faith and pass the word to the rest of the nation.

Gee thanks Wayne...for telling us too late, what we already know and have seen from KHOU.
UGH! Why is this guy still on the air?
There were five people and a lion rescued from the Baptist Church in Crystal Beach this morning. Maybe you aren't getting the reports of anything because you aren't offering any help! Rescues are happening, you can see it all on video. Just check all the other news stations..they are actually reporting what is happening, not complaining about what they aren't getting to do.
Sorry to you Wayne if you want to hinder the jobs of the people who need help right now...taking up peoples times with questions already answered.

Why is Wayne so strange? Is he mentally challenged or what?KHOU news station had footage from Bolviar before channel 13 and you need to pay attention to things other than your self centered puffed up ego! They did not have to hammer at people about one thing if he and channel 13 had the abiltiy to be more than unprofessional and just take a look at the footage from another station! You need to make an apology to this community!

Wayne,
You are doing a great job! My wife and I run to the TV everytime your on.
I do not want you to lose your job but why can't you tell the Governor exactly what it means when the goverment stops reporters from going into any area?
IT IS UNAMERICAN.

Go Wayne Go!!! Please keep pushing to get help to the communities on the Bolivar Peninsula.

why is wayne in so much of a hurry to show maybe six hundred or so bodies floating on bolivar. the public has no right to intrude on that horror. give them some dignity in death.

Im curious to know how many of you critics of Wayne Dolcefeno actually have homes and family members who were on the bolivar peninsula. I think you might feel differently if you had a real interest in knowing what was happening over there. Even if you dont like Wayne Dolcefeno think of the people who have a sincere interest in knowing if there homes are still standing or if there love ones are safe and to be honest i have been listening to channel 11 for the past two days and did not get as much info as i have gotten from channel 13 today. I just ask that before you make insensitive comments even if you dont really care what it happening on Bolivar Peninsula some of us do.
